Killian (they/she) is a bilingual (Spanish/English) birth and postpartum doula who practices using the framework of Reproductive Justice.

They are committed to providing trauma-informed, non-judgmental support to help you make informed decisions about your birth experience and ease the transition to parenthood.

What is a Doula?

Doulas are experienced support professionals. We are trained to offer emotional, physical, and informational support in important life transitions to deepen the joys and mitigate the challenges of an intense experience like birth, pregnancy loss or death. As a birth and postpartum doula, my training and experience prepare me to support you in pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.

Birth and the postpartum period can be exciting, scary, and vulnerable experiences. I am here to affirm your wishes and help you access the care you deserve, as well as grow your support network to see you through the transition. While all support is personalized, some of the things I can help with include weighing your options for where and how to give birth (for example, in a hospital, birth center, or at home; with medication or without), guiding you through the physiology of labor and birth, suggesting comfort measures and coping tools for labor, and strengthening your confidence and knowledge to advocate for yourself to your care providers.

What is Reproductive Justice?

SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective defines Reproductive Justice as "the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities."

There are four main tenets within the RJ movement, which I hold as my own values:

Analyze power systems.

Address intersecting oppressions.

Center the most marginalized.

Join together across issues and identities.

As a white, queer and non-binary doula, there are several ways I practice these values:

  • Offering Queer and Trans-centered care that responds to the needs of your unique family structure

  • Offering sliding scale/barter system/and payment plan options for low- and no-income clients

  • Remaining knowledgeable about local organizations and support networks to help you access legal and social services as needed

  • Materially supporting Black and Indigenous birth workers, who often face racist barriers to birth work, including the criminalization of community midwives
